DiGeronimo Launches School Website

SchoolsWe launched a new website this week, focusing on architectural design services we provide to schools. Our firm is one of the region's preeminent school architectural design firms. We have delivered over 2,000 educational projects during the last 40 years. The site highlights DiGeronimo's activities for the design of new facilities, additions, interior improvements, restoration and repair, and facilities surveys.

This site http://digeronimo-pc-ed.com is the second site in a series of mini-sites highlighting different areas of the firm's practice. Last fall, we launched a site featuring our Construction Accountability services. Our next site will focus on transportation systems and facilities.

"The Future Beneath Us" Exhibit

SIBLDiGeronimo Architects invites you to view one of “Eight Great Projects on exhibit in “The Future Beneath Us.”  Images illustrating the new Trans Hudson Express (THE) Tunnel are on view at the New York Public Library's Science, Industry and Business Library in Healy Hall from February 17 to July, 5. We are proud to be an integral part of the design process for THE Tunnel, a multi-billion dollar project to double rail capacity between New York and New Jersey.

As a subconsultant to the THE Partnership, DiGeronimo Architects is providing architectural design services as an integral part of the architectural and engineering facilities group, including 3-D design visualization.

DiGeronimo Exhibits at NJ School Boards Association 2008 Workshop

Lou DiGeronimoDiGeronimo Architects joined more than 650 exhibitors at New Jersey’s School Boards Association’s 2008 Workshop & Exhibition, in Atlantic City. Exhibitors showcased products, supplies, technology and services for the K-12 market.

DiGeronimo staff mingled with the 5,000+ board members, superintendents, business administrators and district staff who attended the 3-day event. These key decision makers spend over $15 billion a year on education related goods and services for New Jersey's 601 school districts.

CSI & DBI Recognize Louis DiGeronimo

The NJ Chapter Construction Specification Institute (CSI) & Design Build Institute of America (DBIA) Tri-State Chapter honored Louis DiGeronimo, DiGeronimo’s Vice President, at their annual 2008 holiday party.

He received an award recognizing his service as a Past Chapter President. CSI is a national association of specifiers, architects, engineers, contractors and building materials suppliers, dedicated to creating standards and formats to improve construction documents and project delivery. DBIA advocates and advances single-source project delivery in the design and construction community.

DiGeronimo in the News

In the Dec. 8 issue of NJBIZ, Suzanne DiGeronimo, FAIA, outlined “Different Possibilities Through Real Estate Upgrades,” how businesses can capitalize on their assets to meet the economic challenges ahead: “If you own your space, upgrade, improve. If you’re renting, now is the time to buy.” In an economic downturn, bargains abound, though she recommends consulting design professionals to distinguish a “bargain from a money pit.”

FIT´s Alumni News

Hue MagazineFashion Institute of Technology’s alumni magazine, hue, profiled DiGeronimo President, Suzanne DiGeronimo, FAIA, (’67, summa cum laude, interior design) in its Summer 2008 issue. The article showcased DiGeronimo’s recent architectural conservation work on two award-winning projects: the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Brooklyn Battery Tunnel Ventilation Building.

Design Meets Practice

Louis DiGeronimo,AIA, Vice President of DiGeronimo Architects, presented a seminar on construction accountability to students at Essex County College, Newark, NJ, in Nov. 2008. The lecture explored real life issues that architects and engineers confront in the field when drawings are translated into buildings. Mr. DiGeronimo illustrated issues with case studies and discussed how to identify and avoid liability problems in construction.

Sustainable Design in the Community

Suzanne DiGeronimo, FAIA, President of DiGeronimo Architects, participated on a panel discussion at two Sustainable Design Workshops presented by DPC Associates, in Tenafly, NJ and on Long Island. The panelists, all leaders in the construction community, led discussions with the 250 attendees on constructability issues of green building, following a screening of “The Greening of Southie.” The documentary shows how developing a LEED Gold apartment building in a working class neighborhood educated the whole community about sustainability. The workshop qualified for AIA Continuing Education Credits.

Restoring Eden / How does your Garden Grow?

Greenfaith DiGeronimo’s Marketing Manager, Ellen Kuhn, AIA, spoke on a panel presenting successful sustainable projects as models for small institutions—schools, congregations, camps—to members of GreenFaith’s Fellowship Program. New Jersey’s interfaith coalition for the environment, GreenFaith, offers a fellowship program to train religious and environmental leaders. Ms Kuhn outlined the enviromental program she initiated, which led to projects in environmental education, green building, and conservation.
